A Word from the Vine No. 1

Hello everyone, and welcome to a Word from the Vine, a short program where we study our current existence, trends, and offer possibilities and opportunities for our collective futures. We find ourselves in the crossroads from past to future, the industrial age on one hand, the age of information and technology, the Internet and social media on the other.

How will we react to this current position? How can we predict our path, and interpret where we are today as a greater community?

Working together, we can prepare ourselves for what’s to come, and through thought and inner searching, develop positive, solution-based actions to strengthen our common bond as citizens.

Why now? We, citizens of the world, have lost our common sense of team, lost our collective identity and suffer from a terrible crisis of self-image and direction. Though it often feels as though we don’t even matter, history reveals that all ideas begin small, require nurturing and development among the peoples and then can, in fact, change the world one person at a time.

To dismiss the ability to effect change upon ourselves is both lazy and irresponsible. As a group, each community must debate tough issues like adults, and remain friendly in the face of even the most heated of arguments.

It is my personal opinion that to continue this downward spiral of self-interest and social detachment, we will leave our children and their own in a smaller and largely irrelevant country, with good education reserved only for the wealthy and the trades suffering an even larger gap in availability in proportion to need. Empty churches and main streets, social isolation and divisiveness: we made this mess, now we must fix it.

I’m Loren Christensen with a Word from the Vine.
