Hello, I'm Pastor Loren Christensen, and welcome to "A Word from the Vine." Today, we'll be exploring the concept of pruning for growth and how it relates to our spiritual lives. Our inspiration for today comes from the Gospel of John, chapter 15, verse 2: "He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful."
In vineyards like our own at Danish Countryside, pruning is an essential part of the springtime work. We must cut away the old growth to make way for new growth and to ensure that the vines produce healthy, abundant fruit. The same is true in our spiritual lives. We often hold onto old habits, negative thought patterns, and unhealthy relationships that stunt our growth and keep us from bearing fruit.
But just as the vinedresser knows which branches to prune, God knows what areas of our lives need to be cut back to make room for spiritual growth. It may be painful and uncomfortable, but pruning allows us to grow stronger and bear even more fruit for God's kingdom.
So as we go through this season of pruning in the vineyard, let us also reflect on the areas of our lives that may need pruning for spiritual growth. Let us trust in God's plan for our lives and allow Him to work in us, so that we may bear abundant fruit for His glory. Thank you for joining us for "A Word from the Vine."
