Good morning, dear congregation, and welcome to "A Word from the Vine." I'm Pastor Loren Christensen of Danish Countryside Chapel. I trust this message finds you well, and for those braving the winter storms, may God's protection and warmth surround you. Today, I invite you to join me in the sacred space of 1 Samuel 3:1-20.
"And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision." This sets the scene, a time when divine communication was scarce. Yet, in the quietude of the night, young Samuel ministered before the Lord. Imagine the chill in the air, the flickering lamp, and the hushed whispers of the divine.
In the winter of silence, God chose to speak. Samuel, in his innocence, didn't recognize the voice at first. Thrice God called, and thrice Samuel, faithful servant that he was, responded with a simple, "Here I am." It's a beautiful testament to the openness of Samuel's heart.
The lamp had not yet gone out, symbolizing the persistent light of God even in moments when His words seem elusive. Sometimes, beloved, God's voice is a gentle whisper in the stillness, a nudge in the quiet corridors of our lives.
Consider the storms we face, not only the ones outside our windows but the tempests within our souls. In those moments of divine silence, do we remain open? Do we, like Samuel, respond with a heart attuned to God's call?
Samuel's journey is a lesson in obedience and receptivity. His willingness to listen paved the way for God's divine purpose. Today, let us ponder the storms we face, the silences that seem deafening, and ask ourselves, are we ready to say, "Here I am, Lord"?
May the winter storms, both literal and metaphorical, become the backdrop against which we hear God's gentle whispers. May our hearts be like Samuel's—open, responsive, and ready to embark on a journey of divine purpose.
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, in the midst of life's storms and silences, grant us the grace to be attentive to Your voice. May our hearts remain open, ready to respond, "Here I am." Guide us in obedience, that we may walk in Your divine purpose. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
May God's peace be with you all. Until next time, stay warm and be blessed.
