Ephesians 4:28: “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.”
Welcome to another episode of “A Word from the Vine.” I'm Pastor Loren Christensen. Today, we will explore how our work ethic as believers reflects our faith and relationship with God. The way we approach our work and resources speaks volumes about our commitment to living out the principles of the Kingdom of God.
That verse from Ephesians 4:28 at the beginning of our episode challenges us to move beyond the literal act of stealing and consider broader implications. Stealing can manifest in various forms, including laziness, selfishness, and relying on others without contributing. When we take without giving back, we undermine the values of hard work and generosity that are central to a Christ-centered life. Honest labor is not just about earning a living; it’s about contributing to the community and reflecting God’s character through our actions.
I urge you to examine your life for any form of taking without giving back. This could be in your workplace, your home, or your community. Are there areas where you are not contributing as you should? Are you relying on others without offering your fair share? It’s time to embrace the dignity of honest work and shift from a mindset of taking to one of giving. Remember, our work is a form of worship, and through it, we can honor God and bless others.
To live out this principle, consider these practical steps:
Commit to Excellence: Whatever your job or role, do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord (Colossians 3:23). Strive for excellence and integrity in all you do.
Be Generous: Use your resources and labor to bless others. Whether it’s through financial support, volunteering, or simply helping a neighbor, let your work be a means of generosity.
Cultivate a Servant’s Heart: Approach your work with a mindset of service. Look for ways to contribute positively to your workplace and community.
Avoid Laziness: Proverbs 10:4 reminds us that “a slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” Be diligent and proactive in your responsibilities.
Encourage Others: Support and encourage those around you to also embrace honest work and generosity. Together, we can create a culture that reflects the heart of God’s kingdom.
Living a life of honest work and generosity not only benefits us but also those around us. It’s a powerful testimony of our faith and a tangible way to demonstrate the love of Christ.
Thank you for joining me today on “A Word from the Vine.” Let’s commit to stop stealing and start working honestly, so that we may have something to share with anyone in need. God bless you.
