A Word from the Vine No. 5: Faith and Evidence: The Ontological Argument for Christ's Return

Welcome to "A Word from the Vine," a series of reflections on the teachings of Jesus Christ and their relevance to our lives today. In this episode, we will explore the ontological evidence for Christ's return and the question of whether we can know for certain that Jesus Christ walked on the earth and died on the cross.

As Lutherans, we believe that Jesus Christ will return to judge the living and the dead. This belief is based on the teachings of the Bible, which tells us that Christ will come again to establish his kingdom on earth. But how can we be sure that these teachings are true? Is there any evidence within the field of human epistemology that can demonstrate conclusively that Jesus Christ walked on the earth and died on the cross?

The short answer is no. Human knowledge is limited by our finite understanding of the world around us, and there are many things that we simply cannot know for certain. However, that does not mean that our belief in Christ's teachings is unfounded. In fact, there is a wealth of evidence that supports the truth of the Gospel message.

One of the most compelling forms of evidence is the testimony of those who witnessed Christ's life and teachings firsthand. The Bible contains accounts of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ that were written by his disciples and other eyewitnesses. These accounts have been passed down through the centuries and are still read and studied by millions of people today.

In addition to the testimony of eyewitnesses, there is also the evidence of the impact that Christ's teachings have had on the world. For over 2,000 years, the Gospel message has inspired countless individuals to live lives of love, compassion, and service to others. It has transformed cultures and societies, and continues to inspire people today.

Ultimately, our belief in Christ's teachings is a matter of faith. We may not be able to prove conclusively that Jesus Christ walked on the earth and died on the cross, but we can trust in the testimony of those who witnessed his life and teachings firsthand. We can also trust in the impact that his teachings have had on the world and on our own lives.

As we await Christ's return, let us continue to study his teachings, live lives of love and service, and trust in the truth of the Gospel message. I'm Pastor Loren Christensen, and thank you for joining us for "A Word from the Vine."
